Unit F Overview

Grooming Dogs with Special Needs

Learn how to work with dogs that require a little extra care, including puppies, senior dogs and difficult dogs. You’ll gain the knowledge you need to create a positive grooming experience for dogs with a variety of health concerns, including blindness, deafness, obesity, illness and injury. You’ll also learn how to identify mixed breeds and how to develop a grooming plan that complements their features.

Working with Senior Dogs

Discover the common health issues that affect elderly dogs, including arthritis, reduced traction, mobility issues and poor circulation. Learn how to modify an appointment to create a safe, comfortable experience for senior dogs. You’ll also learn which grooming procedures benefit a senior dog’s health and which procedures to avoid.

Working with Difficult Dogs

Learn how to safely and effectively work with dogs that dislike being groomed. Discover how to differentiate between pain and fear and how to make a fearful dog feel safe. You’ll also learn strategies for remaining calm and assertive when grooming a difficult dog.
